Khalifa University To Host Prestigious IROS 2024 Robotics Conference In October
Khalifa University of Science and Technology (Khalifa University) is set to host the 36th IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) in Abu Dhabi. This event, taking place from 14th to 18th October at the ADNEC Centre, marks the first time IROS will be held in the MENA region. The conference will bring together researchers, academics, corporate leaders, and industry professionals from around the globe.
The theme for IROS 2024 is "Robotics for Sustainable Development." The Organising Committee and its Editorial Board are currently accepting papers for presentation. This theme underscores the importance of robotics in achieving sustainable development goals. Khalifa University will have a significant opportunity to showcase its research and innovation in robotics during this event.
Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, General Co-Chair of IROS 2024, stated, "By hosting IROS 2024, Khalifa University aims to reaffirm the UAE's status as a global innovation hub and destination for all industry stakeholders to collaborate on research, and explore business opportunities within the country's innovation ecosystem."
The conference has received a total of 3,753 submissions from 60 countries. China leads with 1,029 papers, followed by the US with 777 submissions. Germany has submitted 302 papers, Japan has contributed 253, while both the UK and South Korea have sent in 173 each. The UAE tops the Arab region with a total of 68 papers.
Competitions and Career Opportunities
IROS 2024 will feature nine global-level competitions focusing on various aspects of robotics and AI. These include challenges related to robots' physical or athletic intelligence, remote robot navigation, robot manipulation, underwater robotics, and perception and sensing. Additionally, an IROS Expo and an exclusive Career Fair will be part of the event.
Exhibits and Networking
A major highlight of the conference will be exhibits showcasing the latest in robotics technologies and products. Attendees can also look forward to poster sessions, keynotes, panel discussions, and networking events designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.
The event is sponsored by several prestigious organisations including IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Robotics Society of Japan (RSJ), Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE), New Technology Foundation, and IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES).
Khalifa University's Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (KU-CARS) plays a pivotal role in driving innovation with around 50 researchers working in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. This centre provides a multidisciplinary environment conducive to conducting advanced research in robotics and autonomous vehicles.
Hosting IROS 2024 is a significant milestone for Khalifa University and highlights the UAE's growing capabilities in robotics research. The event promises to be a landmark occasion for advancing intelligent transport systems within the region.
