Khalifa University And Arizona State University Introduce UAE's First Dual Master's Programme In Entrepreneurship And Innovation

Khalifa University of Science and Technology has partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to introduce a dual Master of Science programme. This initiative, the first in the UAE, focuses on integrating entrepreneurship and innovation into higher education. Students will earn two degrees: one from ASU in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and another from Khalifa University in Engineering Systems and Management with a focus on Technology Management.

The collaboration is supported by Khalifa University's business arm, Khalifa University Enterprises Company (KUEC), and the Khalifa Innovation Center (KIC). These entities aim to help students commercialise their research by supporting those interested in launching startups after completing the programme. The curriculum is designed to provide students with practical experience through a studio-based academic approach.

UAE Launches First Dual Master's in Entrepreneurship

Dr Bayan Sharif, Provost at Khalifa University, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "We are delighted to collaborate with Arizona State University on this unique dual Master of Science programme that will provide Khalifa University students with a studio-based academic and experiential immersive international experience that will culminate in a pitching competition to investors," he stated. The programme aligns with the UAE's vision of fostering a knowledge-based economy.

Hitendra Chaturvedi, co-director of the MS in Entrepreneurship and Innovation programme at ASU's W. P. Carey School of Business, highlighted ASU's reputation for innovation. "ASU has been ranked No 1 in Innovation 10 years in a row, and natural segue to innovation is entrepreneurship," he noted. The collaboration aims to equip future leaders with an entrepreneurial mindset essential for navigating uncertainty.

The dual degree programme will enable networking between faculty, students, and staff from both universities. This interaction will enhance knowledge transfer in areas like investor pitching and developing entrepreneurial skills necessary for startups and corporate innovation. Students will spend part of their studies at ASU before returning to Khalifa University.

Faculty members from both institutions will mentor students throughout their projects. This mentorship aims to ensure that students gain valuable insights into both academic research and practical applications. The dual degree programme is designed to empower students with skills needed for success in global business environments.

This initiative reflects a commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship among students while contributing to economic development in the UAE. By equipping students with essential skills, the programme supports the creation of innovative businesses that can thrive globally.
