Khalifa Port Welcomes First LNG-Powered Vessel To Enhance Sustainable Logistics

United Global Ro-Ro, a collaboration between Noatum Maritime and Erkport, has marked a significant achievement with the first visit of its LNG-powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) at Autoterminal Khalifa Port. This event signifies the start of United Global Ro-Ro's mission to offer sustainable and efficient Ro-Ro logistics on global trade routes.

The UGR Al Samha vessel, with a capacity exceeding 7,000 car equivalent units (CEU) across 12 decks, is designed for optimal transportation of heavy cargo. It serves key markets in the Middle East, Asia, and the Mediterranean. By using LNG propulsion technology and advanced design, it offers an eco-friendly shipping solution that aligns with UAE’s decarbonisation goals.

Khalifa Port serves as the hub for this deep-sea vessel, enhancing feedering links within an already strong network. The integration of strategic port facilities ensures efficient operations. This approach supports United Global Ro-Ro's commitment to providing reliable and environmentally responsible shipping solutions.

Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO of AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster, stated that the maiden call of UGR Al Samha is a crucial step in their strategy to invest in vessels and technologies that reduce environmental impact. "With this vessel now in active service," he added, "we are enhancing our ability to provide competitive, reliable Ro-Ro solutions to global trade partners in an eco-conscious manner."

Tolga Emrah Gezgin, CEO of United Global Ro-Ro (UGR), expressed satisfaction with completing their first voyage at Khalifa Port. He noted that this marks the beginning of their partnership with Noatum Maritime in Ro-Ro transportation. "Through the eco-friendly model we have developed," Gezgin said, "we are minimising both costs and our environmental impact."

Following its successful maiden call, UGR Al Samha will operate on regular routes connecting major automotive and industrial hubs. This deployment supports growing demand for sustainable vehicle transportation. The vessel is part of Noatum Maritime's broader strategy to expand Ro-Ro services while transitioning towards alternative fuels.

The maiden call event at Khalifa Port gathered industry stakeholders to highlight the vessel’s capabilities and UGR's role in enhancing global Ro-Ro trade. This event showcased how United Global Ro-Ro plans to make significant strides in maritime transportation through innovative solutions.

This milestone not only represents progress for United Global Ro-Ro but also underscores a commitment to sustainable practices in maritime logistics. As more voyages are planned, the focus remains on reducing carbon emissions while maintaining economic viability in shipping operations.
