Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Engages With UAE Team Emirates Cyclists During UAE Tour 2025
H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the UAE Tour 2025's second stage. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, this event featured 140 cyclists from 20 international teams. Sheikh Khaled observed the athletes during a demanding 12.2-kilometre individual time trial on Al Hudayriat Island, which requires exceptional focus and endurance.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled engaged with cyclists from UAE Team Emirates XRG. He discussed their experiences and reviewed their preparations and equipment. He emphasised the importance of such events in promoting sports as a vital part of a healthy lifestyle and enhancing Abu Dhabi's reputation as a global hub for major cycling championships.
Sheikh Khaled praised the event's organisation and the efforts of its organisers, noting that it reflects cycling's progress in the UAE. This progress is supported by advanced infrastructure, modern sports facilities, safe track networks, and the ability to attract top international talent. The event showcases the UAE's commitment to fostering a thriving sports culture.
The UAE Tour is unique as it is the only UCI World Tour race in the Middle East. It spans seven stages, starting in Al Dhafra Region and ending at Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain Region on 23rd February 2025. The race covers 1,013 kilometres with diverse routes including flat stages, mountain stages, and an individual time trial.
In November 2021, Abu Dhabi received the prestigious Bike City label from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), becoming Asia's first city to earn this recognition. This accolade highlights Abu Dhabi's commitment to developing cycling infrastructure and promoting cycling as a sport within the region.
Sheikh Khaled concluded his visit by touring logistical facilities and race infrastructure. He reviewed technical systems and equipment to ensure they meet international standards. Accompanying him were Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; and Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.
The UAE Tour not only challenges riders but also showcases the country's natural landscapes and tourist attractions. This year's edition aims to highlight these features while providing a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skills on an international stage.
The event underscores Abu Dhabi's dedication to hosting world-class sporting events that attract global attention. By investing in state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure, Abu Dhabi continues to position itself as a leading destination for international sports competitions.
