Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Attends Inaugural Honorary Doctorate Ceremony For OpenAI CEO Sam Altman At MBZUAI
H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, attended a significant event at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI). The university awarded its first Honorary Doctorate to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, acknowledging his leadership in artificial intelligence.
The ceremony took place at MBZUAI's campus in Abu Dhabi. It was attended by ministers, dignitaries, university leaders, faculty members, and students. This event marked a milestone for the university as it celebrated Altman's contributions to AI's global impact.
During the ceremony, H.H. Sheikh Khaled congratulated Sam Altman on receiving the honorary doctorate. He highlighted that this recognition aligns with the UAE’s vision for leadership in AI and innovation. The nation is committed to creating an AI ecosystem that benefits humanity and fosters inclusive growth.
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of MBZUAI’s Board of Trustees, remarked on the significance of this award. He stated, "Contributing to the UAE’s ambition to create positive global change through advanced technology, the conferral of MBZUAI’s first Honorary Doctorate on Sam Altman is a testament to the university’s growing stature as a global center of excellence in artificial intelligence."
Professor Eric Xing, President and University Professor at MBZUAI, praised Altman's influence on AI development. He noted that Altman has transformed AI from a research concept into a tool for global progress. His efforts have changed how billions interact with information worldwide.
Sam Altman expressed his gratitude for receiving this honour. He said, "I am honoured to receive MBZUAI’s inaugural honorary doctorate. The university’s commitment to putting AI at the center of education and research is truly commendable."
