Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Celebrates Graduation Of Inaugural Cohort At Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy

The graduation ceremony for the first batch of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy students took place at ADNEC Centre, Abu Dhabi. H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the event. He congratulated the 194 graduates and their families, highlighting their future contributions to the maritime transport and logistics sector in Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

H.H. Sheikh Khaled emphasised the academy's importance in nurturing national talent, including maritime specialists and logistics engineers. This initiative aims to provide skilled professionals to drive sustainable growth in the industry, enhancing its competitiveness both regionally and globally. The academy is seen as a crucial element in the UAE's economic development strategy.

Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Chairman of AD Ports Group, expressed pride in H.H. Sheikh Khaled's presence at this milestone event. He stated that the academy aligns with the UAE leadership’s vision to advance marine sciences education. "In just a short time, the academy has succeeded in playing a leading role in this field," he noted.

Dr. Yasser Al Wahedi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, remarked on the significance of this graduation ceremony for the UAE maritime industry. He highlighted that the academy is providing certified professionals who will elevate the industry further. "This academy...has evolved to become a proven driver of prosperous job opportunities," he added.

Established in 2019 under AD Ports Group, the academy began accepting students in 2021. It offers diverse maritime education programmes across eight core academic tracks. Currently, it hosts 410 students, with about 85% being UAE Nationals. The academy provides diplomas in 13 specialisations like marine engineering technology and supply chain management.

Comprehensive Training Programmes

The academy has delivered over 446,000 training hours to more than 4,220 trainees through 150 programmes since its inception. It also offers technical training for maritime sectors and accredited financial courses. The simulation centre has trained students using six full-mission simulators across over 400 scenarios.

In consultancy, experts from the academy have contributed to 43 industrial projects and registered seven patents with USPTO. They also launched a Maritime Sustainability Research Centre under Maritime Hub Abu Dhabi to support public-private collaboration in this vital field.

The achievements of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy underscore its pivotal role in advancing maritime education and research within the Gulf region. Its efforts are crucial for sustaining growth locally and globally while meeting future challenges effectively through skilled human capital development.
