KFUPM Achieves First Place In University Rankings Across Middle East And Africa For 2024

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) has achieved a significant milestone by securing the top position among universities in the Middle East and Africa for 2024, as per the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings. This accomplishment marks a major leap for KFUPM, which has surpassed all universities in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf region, Turkiye, South Africa, and others.

The university's rise is notable when compared to institutions like the University of Cape Town in South Africa and Tel Aviv University, both of which previously held leading positions for several years. KFUPM's strategic transformation since 2020 has been pivotal in this achievement. In that year, it was ranked 507th globally and 13th in the Arab world according to THE rankings.

Since implementing its ambitious strategic plan, KFUPM has steadily climbed the global rankings ladder. It moved from 366th place in 2021 to 228th in 2022, then to 221st in 2023, and now stands at 176th in the latest 2024 rankings. This impressive rise of over 330 positions within four years underscores the university's commitment to improving education quality and research output.

KFUPM has also made remarkable progress in other global rankings. In the QS World University Rankings, it advanced from the 200th position in 2020 to an impressive 101st in 2024. Furthermore, it achieved notable placements by subject: second globally in petroleum engineering, eighth in mining, 48th in chemical engineering, and 54th in mechanical engineering.

Dr. Muhammad Al-Saggaf, president of KFUPM, expressed pride in these achievements while acknowledging that their journey towards global distinction continues. He highlighted the unwavering support from King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. Additionally, he acknowledged Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz's commitment as chairman of the university’s board of trustees.

The substantial gains reflect KFUPM's dedication to enhancing educational standards and expanding its research capabilities. The university's consistent improvement across various global rankings demonstrates its strategic focus on academic excellence and innovation.
