KFSHRC Celebrates Milestone Of 500 Paired Kidney Transplants Since 2011

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) has reached a significant milestone by completing 500 paired kidney transplants since the Kidney Paired Donation Program began in 2011. This achievement is unmatched in the Kingdom and the Middle East, reinforcing KFSHRC's status as a leader in organ transplantation. The program offers innovative solutions for patients with kidney failure, enhancing their chances of finding compatible donors.

This year alone, KFSHRC has performed 100 paired kidney transplants. The program uses a precise mechanism to exchange kidneys between patients whose blood types or tissues do not match their original donors. By facilitating these exchanges, the program increases compatibility rates, providing hope for those who previously struggled to find suitable donors.

The hospital continues to lead with its expertise and dedication to improving patient outcomes.

Commitment to Patient Survival

KFSHRC boasts impressive one-year post-transplant patient survival rates between 97% and 99%. Last year alone, it performed 80 pediatric kidney transplants, more than any other center in both the United States and Europe. Since 2010, KFSHRC has completed 3,000 kidney transplants, including around 1,250 in just the past three years.

KFSHRC's pioneering efforts continue to set benchmarks in organ transplantation within Saudi Arabia and beyond. Its achievements not only enhance healthcare locally but also contribute significantly to global medical advancements in organ transplant procedures.
