KFSHRC Reports Nearly 1.9 Million Patients Served Amid Growing Demand For Specialized Healthcare
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) has demonstrated its capacity to meet the growing demand for specialised healthcare in Saudi Arabia. Over the past year, more than 40,000 patients were admitted across its three locations in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Madinah. This represents a 9% increase compared to 2022. Outpatient clinics also saw a rise, serving approximately 1.9 million patients, an 11% increase from the previous year.
In recent years, KFSHRC has achieved several groundbreaking milestones. Among these are the world's first fully robotic liver transplant and the successful implantation of an electronic chip in a child's brain without surgery. Additionally, they performed a heart transplant on the youngest patient recorded in the Middle East. This year marked another achievement with the world's first fully robotic heart transplant.

KFSHRC's Riyadh branch offers specialised healthcare through five Centres of Excellence. These include the Organ Transplant Centre, which is the most advanced in the Middle East, and the Oncology Centre, the largest in the Gulf region. The Centre for Genomic Medicine serves as Saudi Arabia's primary referral centre for genetic diseases. The Neuroscience Centre leads in advanced neurological care, while the Heart Centre is renowned throughout the Middle East.
The hospital's expansion efforts have been significant over time. In 2000, KFSHRC opened its Jeddah branch after operating independently in Riyadh since 1975. The Madinah branch was established in 2021 following a Royal Decree that transformed Miqat Hospital into part of KFSHRC. This expansion aims to provide broader access to their specialised services.
KFSHRC continues to innovate with its Virtual Care Centre launched in 2021. This initiative has expanded their reach significantly, benefiting around 180,000 patients this year alone—a remarkable increase of 1,800% compared to three years ago. Such advancements highlight their commitment to enhancing patient care through technology.
The hospital's participation as a Platinum Sponsor at the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh from October 21 to 23 underscores its dedication to sharing innovations with visitors. They will showcase advancements in organ transplantation, robotic heart surgery, T-cell manufacturing, pharmacogenetic analysis, and virtual reality applications in medical education.
Branch Facilities and Training Accreditations
The Madinah branch of KFSHRC provides services with its 400 beds focusing on pediatric and adult oncology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology. It has received 14 accreditations for training across various medical and nursing disciplines. Meanwhile, Jeddah's branch features specialised facilities for medical training alongside its core specialties with a capacity of 537 beds.
KFSHRC remains committed to advancing healthcare solutions while maintaining excellence across all branches. Their continuous growth reflects both patient trust and their ability to adapt to evolving healthcare needs within Saudi Arabia.
