KFSH&RC Wins Five Grants To Boost Lab Innovation And Support Vision 2030
Riyadh, SPA – In a significant move to enhance local research capabilities and align with Vision 2030's goals, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) has been honored with five research grants. This initiative, part of the Reactivation and Rebuilding of Existing Labs Initiative by the Research, Development and Innovation Authority, aims to not only boost local research activities but also to create a substantial economic impact and elevate the Kingdom's status as the leading economy in the region.
The grants were announced in a ceremony attended by notable figures including Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications & Information Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research Development and Innovation Authority; Yousef bin Abdullah Al-benyan, Minister of Education; and Dr. Mohammed Al-Otaibi, the General Supervisor of the Authority. This recognition places KFSH&RC among 30 distinguished research entities to receive such an honor.

The awarded projects cover a range of groundbreaking areas: advancing nuclear molecular imaging, reactivating the genetics lab, upgrading the confocal microscopy and imaging core facility, developing a preclinical in-vivo imaging and diagnostic research laboratory, and establishing a single-cell genome sequencing facility. These initiatives are set to propel KFSH&RC to new heights by equipping its laboratories with advanced technology, enhancing research quality, promoting scientific publication and collaboration, generating economically viable patents, and innovating solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.
It's worth noting that KFSH&RC has achieved remarkable global recognition for its contributions to healthcare. It has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 20th globally in the list of the world’s top 250 healthcare institutions for two consecutive years, according to the 2024 Brand Finance rankings. Furthermore, it has also been acknowledged by Newsweek magazine as one of the world's best hospitals in the same year.
