Collaboration Between KFSHRC, SCOT, And Riyadh Traffic Saves Young Girl's Life
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh has announced the successful heart transplant of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. After an eight-month wait for a donor, the hospital became her temporary home. Doctors had implanted a heart pump due to her severe cardiomyopathy diagnosis.
The Saudi Centre for Organ Transplantation (SCOT) notified KFSHRC on Tuesday morning about a suitable donor in Taif. The donor was a four-year-old boy declared brain dead. A medical team from Riyadh immediately traveled to Taif to retrieve the heart, ensuring it would give new life to the young girl.

Upon returning to Riyadh at 8:30 am on Wednesday, the team faced heavy traffic congestion. Thanks to swift coordination with the Riyadh Traffic Department, a clear route was secured for the ambulance. It covered over 40 kilometers in just 25 minutes.
The specialized medical team began the transplant operation as soon as the heart arrived at KFSHRC. The procedure was successful, and the young girl is now under close medical observation. Her family is filled with joy and hope as she receives a beating heart.
The hospital highlighted that these collective efforts and intensive communication between various teams helped overcome all logistical and medical challenges. This included addressing the blood type mismatch between the donor and recipient.
Ongoing Need for Donors
Despite this success, 37 other children across Saudi Arabia continue to await that life-changing call informing them of an available donor. The expertise of KFSHRC's team has restored hope to this young girl and brought immense joy to her family.
The extraordinary efforts of various teams at KFSHRC, SCOT, and the Riyadh Traffic Department made this possible. The girl's dream of returning home to her family is now within reach.
KFSHRC emphasized that these collaborative efforts were crucial in overcoming all challenges faced during this complex process.
