KFSHRC's Organ Transplant Centre Recognised With Innovation Award At Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week 2025
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSHRC) Organ Transplant Centre of Excellence (OTCoE) has been honoured with the Innovation Award in the Regional Institute Category at the Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW) 2025. This accolade acknowledges its significant contributions to transplant innovation and its impact on patient care in the region. Dr. Yasser Al Nemary, a Consultant of Transplant, Hepatobiliary, and Pancreatic Surgery, accepted the award during the ceremony at the ADNEC Centre in Abu Dhabi.
Since 2011, OTCoE has conducted over 6,600 organ transplants, including kidney, liver, lung, and pancreas procedures. It reached a milestone with 1,096 transplants performed in a single year. The centre has also achieved several surgical breakthroughs, such as performing the world's first fully robotic liver transplant and the region's first robotic pancreas transplant on a type 1 diabetes patient.

OTCoE has completed more than 5,000 kidney transplants and successfully executed 500 paired kidney exchanges through its innovative Kidney Paired Donation Program. This makes it a reference point both regionally and globally for multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-focused innovation. "This award affirms our drive to transform organ transplant through innovation and precision, powered by a team relentlessly committed to advancing patient care," said OTCoE Executive Director Dr. Dieter Broering.
The ADGHW Innovation Awards aim to celebrate transformative achievements in healthcare by highlighting institutions that enhance patient outcomes, broaden access to care, and drive progress through innovation. For three consecutive years, KFSHRC has been ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 15th globally among the world's top 250 Academic Medical Centres.
According to the 2025 Brand Finance rankings, KFSHRC is recognised as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. Additionally, it was featured in Newsweek magazine's World's Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025. These accolades underscore its commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery and innovation.
KFSHRC's consistent recognition highlights its dedication to improving healthcare standards through cutting-edge technology and innovative practices. Its achievements not only benefit patients but also set benchmarks for other institutions worldwide.
