KFSHRC Launches Saudi Arabia’s First Gene And Cell Therapy Manufacturing Facility In Riyadh

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) has inaugurated Saudi Arabia's first gene and cell therapy manufacturing facility. This event took place at the Global Health Exhibition 2025 pavilion in Riyadh. The facility is a major step forward for precision medicine and advanced immunotherapy in the Kingdom, aiming to enhance self-reliance in biological treatments.

The new facility covers over 5,000 square meters on the KFSHRC campus in Riyadh. It is expected to produce up to 2,400 therapeutic doses each year by 2030. This development will address 9% of domestic demand and save approximately SAR8 billion by reducing dependence on imported treatments.

By producing gene and cell therapies locally, Saudi Arabia aims to cut external treatment costs and build long-term self-sufficiency. The facility adheres to strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, ensuring safe production in a controlled setting. Each manufacturing stage is carefully reviewed to ensure patient safety and treatment reliability.

KFSHRC plans to scale up production to reach 100 gene therapies annually. This aligns with the Kingdom's National Biotechnology Strategy, led by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The strategy seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in life sciences innovation.

KFSHRC has achieved significant recognition for its contributions to healthcare. It ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa and fifteenth globally among the top 250 academic medical centers for 2025. Brand Finance also named it the region’s most valuable healthcare brand.

Additionally, KFSHRC is listed among Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025, Best Smart Hospitals 2026, and Best Specialized Hospitals 2026. These accolades highlight its leadership in innovation-driven care and commitment to improving citizens' quality of life through advanced healthcare solutions.
