KFSHRC Jeddah Performs First Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy With Immediate Reconstruction
Saudi Arabia has marked a significant medical achievement with King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Jeddah performing the nation's first Robotic Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy. This procedure, which included immediate reconstruction, was completed by a single team in one session. It signifies a leap forward in surgical accuracy and patient care, promising quicker recovery times and better cosmetic results.
The surgery was conducted by Dr. Eman Khayat, a Consultant in Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery. Using an advanced robotic system, the operation avoided large cuts and manual handling, leading to less pain after surgery, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stays. Dr. Khayat highlighted that combining nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction reduces the need for multiple surgeries.

Dr. Khayat explained that this method lessens both physical and mental stress on patients while preserving the breast's natural look and feel. "This innovative approach reduces the physical and psychological burden on patients, shortens the recovery period, and preserves both the natural appearance and sensation of the breast," she stated. The use of small incisions away from the breast also decreases scarring and enhances long-term aesthetic outcomes.
Robotic-assisted breast surgery is at the forefront of global surgical oncology advancements. It offers surgeons greater control and precision through minimally invasive cuts. This technology allows access to difficult-to-reach areas through minimally invasive incisions, resulting in safer tumor removal, enhanced cosmetic results, and a quicker return to normal life.
This accomplishment adds to KFSHRC-Jeddah's list of surgical milestones like the Kingdom’s first fully robotic Whipple procedure for pancreatic cancer and robotic trans-anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). These achievements further establish KFSHRC-Jeddah as a national reference center for advanced surgical innovation and patient-centered care.
KFSHRC is committed to clinical excellence by integrating cutting-edge technology to improve patient outcomes. This dedication supports its vision of being a top choice for specialized healthcare and leading medical innovation in the region.
