KFSHRC Jeddah Successfully Completes First Fully Robotic Liver Transplant In Western Region

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Jeddah has achieved a significant milestone by completing the first fully robotic liver transplant in the Western Region. This procedure was performed on a 23-year-old male patient suffering from hereditary chronic progressive liver disease. The hospital's dedication to advanced healthcare and research is evident through this achievement.

In 2023, KFSHRC reached a groundbreaking milestone by conducting the first-ever fully robotic liver transplant. Since then, they have completed 31 similar procedures, showcasing their expertise in robotic surgery. This accomplishment has positioned KFSHRC as a global leader in this field, highlighting their technical and surgical proficiency.

The operation was notable for its complete reliance on robotic technology for both donor liver removal and transplantation, eliminating direct human intervention. This approach enhances surgical precision, shortens recovery time, and reduces the risk of complications. Following the surgery, both the donor and recipient were discharged from the hospital in good health. In 2024, KFSHRC continued its pioneering efforts by performing the world's first fully robotic heart transplant. They also achieved another first by conducting a fully robotic liver transplant from a living donor using the left lobe.
