KFSHRC Collaborates With Rady Institute For Advanced Newborn Genetic Screening Initiative
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (KFSHRC) has partnered with the Rady Children’s Institute for Genomic Medicine (RCIGM) in the United States. This collaboration aims to implement RCIGM’s genome-based newborn screening platform. The platform can detect over 500 treatable and preventable genetic diseases early, safeguarding children from severe complications and ensuring timely medical care.
The agreement was formalised at KFSHRC’s Riyadh headquarters. Dr. Bjorn Zoëga, CEO of KFSHRC, and Professor Stephen Kingsmore, President and CEO of RCIGM, signed the agreement. Senior leaders from both organisations attended the signing ceremony.

The partnership will focus on several key areas. These include collecting and analysing genomic sequencing data for newborns. Joint clinical research will be conducted to evaluate the benefits and cost-effectiveness of genetic screening. Additionally, globally applicable protocols will be developed, community awareness raised, and healthcare professionals trained in genetic testing.
This strategic agreement enhances KFSHRC's role in precision medicine and genetic testing. It also opens opportunities for collaboration with leading international research institutions to advance medical practice and scientific innovation.
KFSHRC has achieved significant recognition globally. It ranks first in the Middle East and North Africa and 15th worldwide among the top 250 Academic Medical Centers for two consecutive years. According to Brand Finance's 2024 rankings, it is also recognised as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.
Furthermore, Newsweek magazine included KFSHRC in its list of the world's best 250 hospitals. It is also featured in the World’s Best Smart Hospitals list for 2025.
This partnership marks a significant step forward for KFSHRC in advancing its capabilities in genomic medicine. By collaborating with RCIGM, KFSHRC aims to enhance its contributions to global health through innovative medical practices.
