KAUST Launches First Fulbright-KAUST Graduate Award To Enhance Academic Exchange In Saudi Arabia
King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), in collaboration with the US Department of State’s Fulbright Program, has introduced the first-ever Fulbright-KAUST Graduate Award. This initiative is the inaugural Fulbright award for a degree-seeking program in Saudi Arabia, inviting two American students to the Kingdom to foster research and exchange collaboration.
Professor Arwa Al-Aama, KAUST Vice President of Institutional Advancement, highlighted the strategic importance of this initiative. "The Fulbright-KAUST Graduate Award is a strategic initiative that enhances KAUST’s global impact, advances US-Saudi academic diplomacy, and supports Saudi Vision 2030 goals of building a knowledge-driven, innovation-led economy. While here, these Fulbrighters will gain firsthand experience of KAUST’s research environment and Saudi Arabia’s transformation, building lasting professional and cultural bridges. Upon graduation, wherever they go, they will carry with them the potential to strengthen both US and Saudi development through research and innovation."

The Fulbright Program has been a cornerstone of international academic exchange since 1946. It has provided nearly 450,000 individuals from various backgrounds opportunities to study, teach, and conduct research abroad. The program recognises academic merit and leadership potential while promoting cultural exchange.
Rafik Mansour, Consul General of the United States in Jeddah, expressed enthusiasm for this new partnership. "The groundbreaking Fulbright-KAUST Graduate Award, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia, exemplifies the transformative power of the Fulbright Program in building bridges among nations. This pioneering partnership will strengthen cultural ties and advance research collaboration between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by providing exceptional American students with the unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research alongside world-renowned faculty at KAUST, a premier institution that produces 52% of the Middle East’s published scientific research."
The program supports KAUST's mission by attracting top international talent and advancing interdisciplinary research. It offers a fully funded STEM master’s degree lasting 18 to 24 months. This aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by enhancing global partnerships and investing in knowledge-based development.
