KAFD Secures Three LEED Platinum Certifications, Highlighting Commitment To Sustainable Development
The King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC) has achieved a significant milestone by receiving three new LEED Platinum certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This accomplishment reinforces its status as the largest LEED Platinum-certified business and lifestyle hub globally. The certifications were presented during an official visit by Peter Templeton, President and CEO of USGBC.
Templeton's visit to KAFD included high-level discussions on the future of sustainable building practices. Topics such as LEED v5, KAFD’s sustainability roadmap, and plans for integrating green technologies into the district's infrastructure were explored. The visit also featured a tour led by KAFD executives, showcasing the district’s LEED-certified buildings.

The KAFD Fire Station was awarded LEED Platinum for Building Design and Construction. The KAFD Headquarters earned LEED Platinum for Interior Design and Construction, while the Public Investment Fund (PIF) Tower received LEED Platinum for Operations and Maintenance. The PIF Tower is notable as the tallest building in Riyadh.
Faddy AlAql, Chief Asset Delivery Officer at KAFD DMC, highlighted their commitment to sustainability: "At KAFD, we are committed to operating with an environmentally conscious approach, integrating sustainable infrastructure that enhances urban resilience and ensures a high quality of life." He emphasized that projects like the KAFD Fire Station exemplify energy efficiency and community safety.
KAFD is setting benchmarks in smart and sustainable urban development. It has become the first district in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to achieve WiredScore certification for urban neighborhoods. With over 40 buildings certified as LEED Silver or Gold, KAFD remains focused on smart infrastructure and energy-efficient design.
Peter Templeton praised KAFD’s achievements: "From the KAFD Headquarters to the PIF Tower and the fire station, these projects are driving a fundamental transformation in how buildings are designed, built, and operated." He stressed that achieving LEED certification goes beyond sustainable practices; it signifies a commitment to creating a better world.
KAFD continues to be a pioneer in integrating innovative urban solutions that enhance business environments while promoting sustainability. The district's efforts contribute significantly to climate protection by demonstrating how buildings can play a crucial role in this global challenge.
