KACST Launches Saudi Quantum Network Alliance To Enhance Secure Communications And Technology Leadership

The Saudi Quantum Network (SQN) Alliance has been introduced by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). This national initiative aims to unite government bodies and tech firms to establish Saudi Arabia as a leader in quantum communication research. It also seeks to boost the country's cybersecurity and advanced technology capabilities.

In collaboration with prominent national and international organisations, such as Cybrani from Aramco Digital, Salam, Microsoft, and Cisco, the alliance aims to create a cohesive ecosystem. This ecosystem is designed to enhance data and communication security within Saudi Arabia while solidifying its status as a global innovation centre.

Eng. Ibrahim Alshadokhi, CEO of the Internet Services Unit at KACST, highlighted that the SQN Alliance serves as a national model of cooperation between government and industry sectors. The initiative's goal is to pilot the development of a quantum network in Saudi Arabia while building local expertise in this field.

The alliance includes participation from the Saudi Research and Innovation Network (Maeen) at KACST. This reflects KACST's dedication to advancing Saudi Vision 2030 goals by shaping future quantum communications through real-world experimental deployments. These efforts are linked with national research and education networks (NRENs), contributing to national priorities in research, development, and innovation.

The launch of the SQN Alliance coincided with International Internet Day celebrations hosted at KACST. This underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to leading innovation and future sciences on both regional and global levels. The initiative aims to position the Kingdom at the forefront of technological advancements.
