KACST Joins IASP's Global Innovation Districts Alliance To Enhance Innovation And Economic Growth
King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has announced its membership in the Global Innovation Districts Alliance. This initiative, launched by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), aims to connect innovation districts worldwide, accelerate technological advancements, and promote economic growth.
By joining this global network, KACST has transitioned from being an "Innovation Park" to an "Innovation District." This change highlights KACST's significant role in research and development, innovation, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure development. The organisation has established business incubators and accelerators to support startups, innovators, and technological projects.

KACST's efforts align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 goals. These include diversifying the economy and increasing the GDP contribution from non-oil sectors. By strengthening its position as a global innovation hub, KACST aims to contribute significantly to these national objectives.
The Global Innovation Districts Alliance includes 17 member nations such as Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Spain, Germany, and Italy. The alliance facilitates knowledge transfer and best practice sharing among its members. It also develops performance indicators and evaluation criteria to integrate diverse innovation regions, universities, companies, and communities.
The alliance will enhance technology transfer capabilities and attract international investors and partners. It plans to expand business incubator and startup programs while offering more growth opportunities. Member states can showcase their local development initiatives aimed at building sustainable cities environmentally, economically, and socially.
Eight Saudi innovation parks are part of IASP's Global Innovation Districts Alliance. These include KACST, Dhahran Techno Valley, KAUST, Aramco's Innovation and Product Development Center, and Taibah Valley. The alliance boasts a global membership of 320 science parks and R&D centers.
This collaboration underscores KACST's commitment to fostering innovation within Saudi Arabia. By participating in this international network, KACST aims to leverage global expertise while contributing its own insights into developing sustainable innovation ecosystems worldwide.
