Jordan Bans All Activities Of Muslim Brotherhood, Declares Group Illegal Amid Security Concerns

The Interior Minister, Mazen Farraya, declared that the disbanded Muslim Brotherhood is now considered an illegal entity. This decision, effective immediately, follows legal procedures. All activities by this group are banned and will face legal consequences. The minister emphasised that promoting the group's ideology is also illegal and will be subject to legal action.

Farraya highlighted that any offices or headquarters used by the group across Jordan will be shut down. This applies even if they operate under different names. Legal accountability will follow any deviation from this directive. Additionally, political entities, media outlets, social media users, and civil society organisations are prohibited from engaging with or publishing content related to the Muslim Brotherhood or its affiliates.

Jordan Declares Muslim Brotherhood Activities Illegal

The minister revealed that following a foiled plot targeting national security, authorities discovered attempts by the group to destroy documents at their headquarters. These actions aimed to conceal suspicious activities and affiliations. Moreover, an operation involving explosives was uncovered, linked to a leader's son and others targeting security agencies and sensitive sites in Jordan.

Farraya stated that measures would be taken against individuals or entities involved in criminal acts related to ongoing court cases or the disbanded group. The committee overseeing the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood will expedite its work in line with court rulings.

The minister stressed that today's decisions aim to protect society's safety and prevent actions disrupting security and public order. The state prioritises safeguarding Jordan's security and stability while ensuring freedom of expression and political activity under the law.

Despite historical protection for forming political parties and associations, it has been proven that elements of the disbanded group engaged in secretive activities threatening stability, security, and national unity. These actions disturbed public order.

Illegal Activities Uncovered

The minister disclosed that no state can tolerate actions involving moving explosives through cities or storing them in residential areas. Manufacturing rockets in suburban areas of the capital and training operatives inside and outside Jordan were also revealed as threats.

The continued activities of the Muslim Brotherhood pose risks to society and endanger citizens' lives. The state remains committed to ensuring security while addressing regional and global challenges.

Farraya concluded by reaffirming the government's dedication to upholding freedom of expression and political activity within legal frameworks. He noted that collective efforts are crucial for meeting Jordanians' aspirations during these challenging times.
