Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, And US Jointly Call For Peace And Security Restoration In Sudan

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States have jointly issued a statement focusing on restoring peace in Sudan. This initiative highlights the urgent need to address what has become one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises, posing significant threats to regional stability and security.

In their discussions, the ministers emphasised that Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity are crucial for peace. They agreed that military solutions are not viable and only worsen the situation. The ongoing conflict results in unacceptable suffering and risks to peace.

Call for Peace in Sudan by Key Nations

The ministers called for all parties involved in the conflict to allow quick and safe humanitarian access throughout Sudan. They stressed the importance of protecting civilians according to international humanitarian law and commitments under the Jeddah Declaration.

They urged an immediate three-month humanitarian truce to facilitate aid delivery across Sudan. This truce should lead to a permanent ceasefire, followed by a nine-month transition process towards establishing an independent civilian-led government.

The future governance of Sudan should be determined by its people through an inclusive process. The ministers opposed any control by warring factions or extremist groups linked to destabilising forces like the Muslim Brotherhood.

External military support prolongs the conflict and destabilises the region. Therefore, ending such support is vital for resolving the conflict effectively.

Commitments for Peaceful Resolution

The ministers committed to supporting a negotiated settlement involving SAF and RSF. They will press all parties to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian aid reaches those in need.

Efforts will also focus on securing the broader Red Sea region and countering transnational threats from terrorist organisations. The aim is to deny space to actors benefiting from continued conflict in Sudan.

International Cooperation

The ministers pledged readiness to work with African, Arab states, UN partners, and others for peace restoration in Sudan. They discussed urgent humanitarian needs and early recovery requirements while urging international community involvement.

Support was expressed for efforts by Saudi Arabia and the US through the Jeddah process towards a permanent ceasefire. Egypt's role in facilitating dialogue among Sudanese civil forces was also acknowledged.

The ministers plan ongoing consultations at various levels to coordinate efforts for ending Sudan's conflict. Their next meeting is scheduled during the Quad ministerial meeting in September 2025.
