UAE And Arab Nations Condemn Israel’s Knesset Approval Of Sovereignty Over Occupied West Bank

The United Arab Emirates, alongside several other nations and organisations, has expressed strong disapproval of the Israeli Knesset's decision to assert "Israeli sovereignty" over the occupied West Bank. This move is seen as a direct violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolutions 242 (1967), 338 (1973), and 2334 (2016). These resolutions reject any attempts to legitimise occupation or settlement activities in Palestinian territories occupied since 1967.

These countries, including Bahrain, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have reiterated that Israel holds no sovereignty over the Occupied Palestinian Territory. They stress that this unilateral action by Israel lacks legal validity and does not change the legal status of these territories. East Jerusalem remains an essential part of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Arab Nations Condemn Israel’s West Bank Sovereignty

The coalition urges the global community to take immediate action against Israel's policies aimed at enforcing control by force. They call on bodies like the UN Security Council to fulfil their responsibilities in halting these illegal actions. The aim is to prevent further undermining of peace prospects and the two-state solution.

Furthermore, these nations highlight that Israeli actions are exacerbating tensions in an already volatile region. The ongoing aggression in Gaza has led to a severe humanitarian crisis. Such developments only serve to heighten instability and conflict.

The involved countries reaffirm their dedication to achieving a two-state solution based on international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. They advocate for establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This collective stance underscores a commitment to peace and stability in the region. It emphasises that unilateral moves by Israel cannot alter established international agreements or change the status of occupied territories.
