GCC Councils And European Parliament Leaders Discuss Cooperation And Regional Stability In Abu Dhabi Meeting
Shaikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al Shaikh, Speaker of the Shura Council, took part in a meeting with Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament. This gathering included leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and was hosted in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The event saw participation from notable figures like Saqr Ghobash of the UAE and Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam from Bahrain.
The meeting highlighted the strong partnership between GCC nations and the European Union. Both sides emphasised mutual respect and cooperation as foundations for security and prosperity. They agreed on the importance of enhancing dialogue and exchanging expertise on regional and international matters.

The attendees praised the outcomes of the first Gulf-European Summit held in Brussels, Belgium. This summit, themed "A Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity," serves as a roadmap for strengthening bilateral relations. It aims to advance existing partnerships through renewed efforts.
During discussions, participants stressed the need to address pressing global challenges. These include climate change, energy security, sustainable development, counterterrorism, and promoting universal human values like coexistence and tolerance.
The meeting also addressed escalating tensions in Gaza Strip and the Middle East. Participants called for protecting civilians under international law and warned against continued escalation's impact on global stability. They urged for humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza and advocated for a ceasefire.
In addition to Middle Eastern issues, discussions included efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to resolving this conflict while supporting Gulf countries' initiatives for a ceasefire and humanitarian assistance.
Commitment to Dialogue
The importance of de-escalation in the Arabian Gulf region was underscored amid current military developments. Both sides agreed on prioritising diplomacy to safeguard regional security. They expressed hope for ongoing strategic dialogue through annual meetings between parliaments.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude towards UAE President Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his hospitality. Appreciation was also extended to Saqr Ghobash for his organisational efforts alongside GCC members.
