Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Visits Türkiye For High-Level Strategic Council Meeting
The Republic of Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are strengthening their ties. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, visited Türkiye for the First Meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council on 16 July 2025. This meeting highlighted both nations' commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
During this visit, discussions focused on expanding collaboration in areas like economy, trade, defence, technology, and culture. Both countries aim to leverage existing agreements such as the Comprehensive and Economic Partnership Agreement to boost mutual investments and explore new trade routes. The leaders also discussed fostering partnerships between public and private sectors.

Energy cooperation was a key topic during the discussions. The leaders emphasised the importance of sustainable energy resources for economic growth and climate resilience. They expressed a shared ambition to advance energy transition efforts, aligning with national priorities. Both countries aim to contribute to global goals like improving energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy capacity by 2030.
The leaders also highlighted their commitment to joint projects in renewable energy and hydrocarbons. They recognised the significance of these initiatives in driving economic growth while addressing environmental challenges.
The upcoming 2026 United Nations Water Conference in the UAE was another focal point. Co-hosted by the UAE and Senegal, this conference aims to accelerate progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on water availability and sanitation. The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative was commended for its role in tackling water scarcity through technological innovation.
Both leaders acknowledged the importance of maintaining momentum in bilateral relations by focusing on emerging technologies. They highlighted their young populations' role in fostering innovation and competitiveness.
Cultural and Social Exchanges
Cultural cooperation was also discussed, with both sides agreeing to promote exchanges that strengthen bonds between Turkish and Emirati peoples. The leaders underscored the importance of cultural ties in enhancing mutual understanding and friendship.
Defence and security cooperation were reaffirmed as priorities. Both countries aim to enhance capacity-building efforts by exchanging expertise and sharing knowledge.
Regional Stability Efforts
This visit provided an opportunity to address regional developments. Both nations emphasised their commitment to promoting dialogue and international law principles for regional peace and stability. They aim to work together towards a secure environment that fosters prosperity.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during their stay in Türkiye. Seven bilateral agreements were signed during this visit, further solidifying their partnership.
The next meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council is scheduled for 2026 in Abu Dhabi, with dates to be confirmed through diplomatic channels. This ongoing dialogue reflects both countries' dedication to strengthening their relationship for mutual benefit.
