Joby Aviation Teams Up With Abu Dhabi To Launch Electric Air Taxi Ecosystem

Joby Aviation, a pioneering force in the realm of air mobility, has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with key Abu Dhabi departments and organizations. This strategic alliance, forged at the DRIFTx event in Abu Dhabi, marks a significant milestone in Joby's expansion within the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The MoU not only cements Joby's commitment to the region but also secures its exclusive rights to launch air taxi services in Dubai from next year, with prospects for extending these services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The collaboration involves the Department of Municipalities and Transport - Abu Dhabi, the Department of Economic Development - Abu Dhabi, and the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi. Each department has underscored the importance of this partnership in fostering economic diversification, enhancing the tourism sector, and redefining transportation within Abu Dhabi in alignment with the Tourism Strategy 2030.

Joby Aviation's founder and CEO expressed deep appreciation for the support from Abu Dhabi's governmental entities, emphasizing the significance of this collaboration in Joby's journey. The company's innovative electric air taxi, capable of transporting a pilot and four passengers at speeds up to 200 mph with zero emissions and a minimal acoustic footprint, stands at the forefront of transforming inter-city travel. With a maximum range of 100 miles, these air taxis promise a swift and efficient travel option between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Furthermore, Joby has been actively engaging with the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for air taxi operations. This initiative follows Joby's historic achievement of conducting the first electric air taxi flight in New York City in November 2023. Additionally, Joby has initiated production at its manufacturing facility in California and has recently delivered an electric air taxi to the U.S. Department of Defense.

With over $2 billion raised in funding and its listing on the New York Stock Exchange, Joby Aviation is poised to revolutionize urban mobility.
