Jeddah Governor Receives Torch Of Saudi Games 2024 In Prestigious Ceremony
Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, the Governor of Jeddah, received the torch for the third Saudi Games 2024 at King Abdulaziz University. The torch was handed over by Mohammed Noor, a football player who was named the Best Player in the League in 2009. This event marks the start of a promotional tour for the torch ahead of the Kingdom's largest national sporting event.
The torch relay at King Abdulaziz University featured triathlete Nora Al-Sudairi alongside Mohammed Noor. Al-Sudairi has an impressive record, having won gold at the Bahrain Triathlon Federation Championship 2023 and bronze medals at both the 2023 Saudi Games and Jeddah Governorate Triathlon. The torch will next visit historical Asfan Castle in Jeddah.

At Asfan Castle, karate player Yaqoub Bukhou and padel player Najwa Salhab will carry the torch. Bukhou won gold in individual kata at the 2023 Asian Junior and Youth Championship in Kazakhstan. Salhab secured third place in both the Saudi Games 2022 and 2023. Their participation highlights their achievements and promotes the upcoming games.
The torch will also make its way to Effat University. Cyclist Dania Sambawi, who earned a silver medal at the Saudi Games 2023, will carry it along with Paralympic weightlifter Saeed Al-Hawsawi. Al-Hawsawi won bronze at the 2022 West Asian Championship and silver at the Saudi Games 2023. Their involvement underscores their contributions to sports in Saudi Arabia.
Prince Saud praised the unwavering support from Saudi leadership for sports and athletes across the Kingdom. He expressed his best wishes to all participants, hoping they achieve their ambitions and goals during these competitions.
The torch's journey through Jeddah is part of a broader effort to promote national sports events and celebrate athletic achievements. The relay not only honours accomplished athletes but also aims to inspire future generations to pursue excellence in sports.
