Jebel Ali Port Marks Historic Arrival Of MV Houston Express Under Gemini Service

DP World has celebrated the arrival of the first vessel at Jebel Ali Port as part of the Gemini Cooperation. This strategic partnership between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk aims to boost ocean freight networks and global trade links. The MV Houston Express, a containership with a capacity of 15,000 TEUs, docked on 5th February, marking a significant milestone for this initiative.

The Gemini Cooperation is a significant alliance between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk. It aims to establish an efficient and dependable ocean freight network across seven trade lanes. This network includes 57 mainliner and shuttle services, utilising around 340 modern vessels, many of which are transitioning to cleaner fuels.

The MV Houston Express is part of the Indian Ocean Service. It enhances trade connections between the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Europe. To mark this event, DP World and Hapag-Lloyd senior management organised a special reception at Jebel Ali Port. This highlighted the port's crucial role in global supply chains.

Shahab Al Jassmi, Senior Vice President at DP World GCC, stated, "The arrival of the first Gemini Cooperation vessel at Jebel Ali Port reinforces our position as the leading maritime hub in the Middle East. Christiaan Goeman Borgesius from Hapag-Lloyd expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Gemini.
