Ithra: A Cultural Beacon For Saudi Arabia On The Global Stage

The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, known as Ithra, has significantly influenced Saudi Arabia's cultural landscape since its inception. Located in Dhahran, it has become a global hub for cultural, scientific, and literary events. Since opening to the public in 2018, Ithra has attracted over six million visitors from various countries, promoting cultural exchange worldwide.

Time Magazine recognised Ithra as one of the top 100 places to visit globally. This accolade underscores its role as a cultural ambassador for Saudi Arabia. The centre's programs have reached 100 cities worldwide, benefiting more than 700,000 people and enhancing the Kingdom’s international relations.

Ithra: Saudi Arabia's Cultural Landmark

Ithra boasts a library with 300,000 books, making it one of the world's most significant public libraries. It also houses Saudi Arabia’s first children’s museum, offering specialised programs for young audiences. The opera-style theatre hosts both international and local performances throughout the year.

Abdullah Al Buqami, Ithra Technical Services Manager, described the centre as an architectural icon. He emphasised that visitor and staff safety is paramount. The centre employs advanced international practices and early warning systems linked to monitoring centres to ensure a safe experience for all visitors.

Ithra is committed to accessibility for persons with disabilities. It provides mobility access, dedicated parking spaces, Braille resources for the visually impaired, and other features to enhance their experience. These efforts reflect Ithra's dedication to inclusivity and safeguarding rights.

The centre was established by Saudi Aramco near the Prosperity Well site, symbolising both cultural transformation and economic milestones in Saudi Arabia's history. This location choice highlights its significance in reshaping the Kingdom’s modern narrative.

Ithra continues to support Saudi artists, intellectuals, and creatives by showcasing their work on a global stage. Through its initiatives, it enhances strategic global relations while highlighting the Kingdom’s vibrant cultural image.
