ITC Launches Pilot Project For Autonomous Delivery Vehicles In Collaboration With Noon And K2
The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), part of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has initiated a trial for autonomous e-commerce delivery vehicles in Abu Dhabi. This project is overseen by the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC) and involves collaboration with "noon," a prominent e-commerce platform, and "AutoGo," a subsidiary of "K2." The initiative aims to enhance Abu Dhabi's smart mobility ecosystem and digital transformation efforts.
Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director-General of ITC, remarked, "The pilot project underlines ITC’s role in enabling innovative technologies within a safe and reliable regulatory framework that advances sustainability and improves quality of life across the community." This underscores ITC's commitment to integrating advanced technologies into everyday life while maintaining safety standards.

The project incorporates "AutoGo's" self-driving delivery vehicles into "noon's" logistics network. This integration aims to improve the efficiency of supplying mini-fulfilment centres throughout Abu Dhabi. By utilising advanced autonomous-driving technologies, the initiative supports the development of a smart mobility system that operates without human intervention.
Equipped with artificial intelligence and cutting-edge sensors, these vehicles can navigate urban areas safely. They deliver orders directly to customers, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing reliance on human drivers. This technological advancement is expected to significantly impact Abu Dhabi's logistics sector by streamlining processes.
This initiative represents a significant step in merging smart mobility with e-commerce. It aims to boost operational efficiency, decrease traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and improve customer experiences. The project aligns with Abu Dhabi's comprehensive smart-mobility strategy, which targets completing 25 percent of all trips using smart transport by 2040.
Faraz Khalid, CEO of noon, stated, "Noon aims to redefine the future of e-commerce through innovation, and our partnership with the ITC and AutoGo is an important step towards developing autonomous delivery solutions that improve the efficiency and sustainability of logistics services." This collaboration highlights the shared vision for sustainable logistics solutions.
Following this achievement, "AutoGo" plans to continue collaborating with "noon" and ITC. The goal is to expand the pilot project to additional neighbourhoods and include a broader range of products. Full commercial operations are anticipated to be implemented more extensively in the near future.
