Makkah Hosts Conference On Bridging Gaps Among Islamic Sects
The Muslim World League (MWL) recently hosted an international conference titled "Building Bridges between Islamic Schools of Thought and Sects" in Makkah on March 17-18. This significant event brought together scholars and leaders from various Islamic communities to discuss the importance of unity and cooperation within the Muslim world. A session led by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, highlighted efforts to connect followers of different Islamic sects.
Dr. Ismail Lutfi Japakiya, Rector of Fatoni University in Thailand, addressed the natural differences among scholars since the early days of Islam. He underscored the necessity of incorporating science into education and called for organized fatwa processes to maintain societal unity. Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sammak, Secretary General of the Islamic-Christian National Dialogue Committee, praised MWL's initiatives to enhance Muslim unity, promote respect for diversity, and prevent the misuse of differences for divisive purposes.

Dr. Ahmed Kaweesa Ssengendo, Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation responsible for Economic Affairs in Uganda, emphasized that solidarity among Muslims is crucial for achieving progress and prosperity. He remarked on the current era's significant challenges that affect individuals regardless of their sect, stating that fragmentation is not a viable option.
Dr. Abdul Hannan Tago, President of the Ulama Supreme Council of the Philippines for Peace and Development, highlighted Islam's core values of peace, justice, and profound respect for humanity. He stressed the importance of embracing human diversity, cultivating a culture of respect and tolerance, and striving for a just and peaceful society. According to Dr. Tago, these principles are essential for building a harmonious and equitable society that ensures justice and peace for everyone.
The conference underscored the collective efforts needed to bridge gaps between different Islamic sects through dialogue and understanding. By focusing on shared values and goals, participants advocated for a unified approach to address the challenges facing the Muslim community today.
