Islamic Development Bank Reaffirms Commitment To Educational Reforms In Uzbekistan With Major Investments
Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), recently visited the Institute for Retraining and Advanced Training of Directors and Specialists of Preschool in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This visit was part of a significant investment initiative aimed at bolstering the country's education sector. The collaboration involves IsDB, UNICEF, and Uzbekistan's Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
The initiative focuses on enhancing early childhood education through various innovative projects. A notable aspect is the $2.3 million investment that led to the creation of 11 regional training centres. Additionally, it launched Tashkent's first AI-powered multimedia studio and developed new teacher training programs.

Dr. Al Jasser expressed his admiration for the project's impact, stating, "Witnessing this project firsthand is inspiring. We are seeing modern tools unleash the potential of teachers and an innovative curriculum revolutionize the learning experience for a generation of children." He emphasized that investing in youth is crucial for Uzbekistan's future prosperity.
The IsDB's commitment extends beyond this project to broader educational reforms within Uzbekistan and other regions. The bank is also working with UNICEF on the $220 million SmartED Project, marking the largest single investment in Uzbekistan’s education sector.
This extensive initiative includes two agreements valued at $19.2 million to support inclusive education models, curriculum updates, and quality assurance measures. These efforts align with Uzbekistan's governmental objectives to enhance human capital development.
Regina Castillo, UNICEF Representative to Uzbekistan, highlighted how IsDB’s investments align with national goals for improving human capital. This collaboration aims to foster a more inclusive and effective educational environment across the country.
The ongoing partnership between IsDB and UNICEF demonstrates a shared vision for advancing educational opportunities in Uzbekistan. By focusing on early childhood education and inclusive practices, these initiatives aim to create lasting benefits for future generations.
