The Islamic Arts Biennale 2025 in Jeddah is drawing attention with a unique exhibit featuring the key to the Kaaba. This display offers a rare glimpse into one of Islam's most treasured artifacts, steeped in historical and spiritual significance. Visitors can view this priceless key at the AlBidayah section, which serves as a comprehensive platform showcasing spirituality and Islamic identity.

The biennale, themed "And All That Is in Between," is hosted at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport. The key on display is not just a physical object but a timeless symbol of Makkah's holiest site. It was crafted specifically for the lock that secures the entrance to the Kaaba.

This key measures 4.2 x 3.2 x 29.9 cm and is made from copper and silver. Its importance goes beyond its material composition, as it represents the most sacred House of Allah, revered throughout Islamic history. The keys to the Kaaba hold deep historical meaning, highlighted when Prophet Muhammad returned them to Uthman ibn Talha.

Prophet Muhammad assured that this privilege would remain with Uthman ibn Talha's descendants from the Bani Shaiba clan. Since then, generations have inherited this responsibility, symbolising continuity and honour linked to the key. This tradition underscores its enduring significance within the Islamic community.

The displayed key at the biennale is remarkable for its elegant design and historical value. It stands out as one of only two keys bearing their makers' names, adding to its exceptional significance. Moreover, it is unique as it remains in private hands, unlike other similar artifacts.
