Iraq's Prime Minister And DCO Secretary General Explore Digital Transformation Cooperation Opportunities
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani of Iraq met with Deemah AlYahya, Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), to explore collaboration opportunities. Their discussions centred on supporting Iraq's digital transformation plan and its broader strategy for digital business and artificial intelligence (AI). The focus is on enhancing human capabilities to enable young Iraqis to contribute significantly to the digital economy.
Iraq is actively pursuing a digital transformation aimed at sustainable infrastructure and economic growth. Initiatives like the Digital Space Iraq Forum, scheduled for November 2024, highlight the nation's commitment to investing in human capital and embracing advanced technologies such as AI. These efforts are designed to establish a comprehensive digital economy in Iraq.

The Prime Minister underscored his government's efforts in laying the groundwork for digital transformation. He expressed confidence in Iraq's potential to make significant advancements in this sector. Additionally, he welcomed collaboration with DCO to identify projects that align with Iraq's digital transformation goals.
AlYahya praised Iraq's progress in the digital sector, particularly its focus on investing in human capabilities and developing digital skills. She noted that these elements will be crucial drivers of growth for the country's digital economy.
Since its establishment in November 2020, DCO has been leading global initiatives to enhance the digital economy. It promotes policies and programs that emphasise inclusivity, innovation, and sustainable development. Key initiatives include the Digital Economy Navigator (DEN) and the Digital FDI Initiative, which have facilitated international cooperation and supported entrepreneurs within Member States.
The Digital Cooperation Organization comprises 16 Member States, representing nearly $3.5 trillion in GDP and a market of about 800 million people. Notably, over 70% of this population is under 35 years old. DCO stands as the first international intergovernmental body dedicated solely to fostering an inclusive and sustainable digital economy.
The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to advancing Iraq's digital landscape through strategic partnerships and investments. By focusing on human capital development and technology adoption, Iraq aims to build a robust foundation for its future digital economy.
