Exciting Match-Ups Announced For Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2024
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships' second week begins with the ATP 500 men's tournament. The draw has set up exciting matches, including a clash between No. 2 seed Alex de Minaur and former US Open winner Marin Čilić. This year's competition features 32 players, including past champions Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Roberto Bautista Agut, and current titleholder Ugo Humbert.
Humbert expressed his delight at returning to Dubai, recalling fond memories from last year. He faces Jiri Lehecka for the first time and considers winning the 2024 Dubai title as a career highlight. Medvedev, ranked sixth globally and the 2021 US Open champion, is participating for the third consecutive year. He will play against Jan-Lennard Struff, against whom he holds a strong 7-1 record.

Matteo Berrettini, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2021, aims to extend his winning streak to four matches against Gaël Monfils. Monfils is a two-time Grand Slam semi-finalist. Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard from France makes his Dubai debut this week. Wildcard Dan Evans returns for his sixth appearance in Dubai after reaching the semi-finals in 2020.
Evans shared his enthusiasm about competing again in Dubai, where he feels at home due to spending significant time there. "I’m really looking forward to competing again," he said. "I’ve always felt comfortable here and it’s a place where I’ve spent a lot of time." Rublev, seeded third, returns for his fifth consecutive year and will begin his campaign against a qualifier.
Bautista Agut will face Hungary's Fabian Marozsan in the opening round. Ramesh Cidambi, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free and Chairman of the Tournament Organising Committee, remarked on the excitement surrounding the draw: "The draw always brings an extra level of excitement to the tournament." Fans can anticipate high-quality tennis from the outset with top players competing.
Salah Tahlak announced three wild card entries: Evans joins Hady Habib from Lebanon and Tunisia’s Aziz Dougaz. Tahlak noted that selecting players from various nationalities can be challenging but emphasised that as an Arab country, they value freedom and respect by providing opportunities for diverse players.
