International Support Grows For Saudi Arabia And France's Conference On Palestinian Cause

Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohamed Al-Wasel, Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the United Nations, and Ambassador Jérôme Bonnafont, France's permanent representative, led a briefing at the UN headquarters in New York City. The session focused on preparations for an international conference addressing the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and implementing the two-state solution. This conference is set for June, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.

Al-Wasel highlighted that establishing an independent Palestinian state is crucial for regional security and stability. He emphasized Saudi Arabia's long-standing support for the two-state solution. He also announced the creation of several working groups to tackle key issues related to peacefully resolving the conflict. Member states were encouraged to share their ideas and proposals to aid in preparing for the conference.

Most UN member states and observer delegations from regional blocs expressed full backing for Saudi Arabia and France's efforts in organizing this conference. These countries stressed the need for tangible outcomes, including recognizing a State of Palestine. They opposed land annexation and forced displacement of Palestinians while emphasizing support for both the Palestinian government and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Participating nations commended Saudi Arabia's leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause, its role as co-chair of the conference, and its efforts to foster collective action. They acknowledged Saudi Arabia's dedication to maintaining political and diplomatic momentum essential for the success of this conference.
