International Experts Convene At UAE Innovates 2024 To Discuss Sustainability
Globally acclaimed scientists gathered at the 15th International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM) in Ras Al Khaimah, offering their expertise during the "UAE Innovates" sessions. These sessions, focusing on sustainability and the synergy between science and innovation, saw Prof Sir Anthony Cheetham of Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAKCAM) and Prof Veena Sahajwalla from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, delivering insightful talks. Their audience comprised government officials, academics, and students at Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Centre.
"UAE Innovates" stands as a monumental celebration of innovation within the UAE, showcasing a collaborative effort among the government, private sector, and individuals to foster an innovation-centric culture nationwide. Prof Cheetham, also affiliated with the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the National University of Singapore, highlighted the objectives of RAKCAM and IWAM's contribution to science promotion and student inspiration across Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE. He emphasized the transformative potential of advanced materials in sectors like aerospace, transport, construction, and healthcare towards reducing carbon footprints and energy demands.

Prof Sahajwalla, celebrated as ‘The Waste Queen’ for her innovative approach to waste transformation into green materials, discussed the critical role of waste utilization in achieving sustainability. She elaborated on methods for waste reform and its reuse within a circular economy framework. The discussions underscored the importance of innovative solutions in driving progress and prosperity across various sectors.
The "UAE Innovates" event continues at Al Hamra International Exhibition and Conference Centre until 23rd February. This month-long agenda underlines the UAE's commitment to innovation through exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and panel discussions. These initiatives highlight the pivotal role of innovative solutions in ensuring continued national progress and prosperity.
