International Islamic Fiqh Academy And SFDA Discuss Halal Legislation At Jeddah Symposium

The International Islamic Fiqh Academy, in collaboration with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), recently organised a symposium in Jeddah. This event aimed to bolster halal legislation through discussions among food experts and academy members. The gathering included prominent figures such as Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, SFDA CEO Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey, and academy Secretary-General Koutoub Moustapha Sano.

Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, who is also an Imam at the Grand Mosque and a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, emphasised the academy's role in clarifying Sharia rulings on modern issues. He highlighted the need for laws that align with Islamic principles while addressing the challenges faced by the Muslim community. He urged scholars to study contemporary issues through the lens of Quranic teachings and traditions.

Halal Legislation Discussed at Jeddah Symposium

Dr. Hisham bin Saad Aljadhey commended the strong partnership between the two institutions. He stressed the importance of adapting to advancements in the food industry from an Islamic jurisprudence perspective. This collaboration aims to ensure that halal legislation keeps pace with industry developments, providing clear guidance for Muslims worldwide.

Koutoub Moustapha Sano pointed out the growing complexity of modern issues, which necessitates collective ijtihad involving experts in both Sharia and contemporary sciences. In June 2022, both organisations held another symposium focusing on Sharia rulings concerning various food-related topics.
