International Film Criticism Conference To Explore Sound In Cinema In Riyadh From November 6-10, 2023
The Film Commission has revealed that Riyadh will host the International Film Criticism Conference from November 6 to 10, focusing on "Sound in Cinema." This event aims to enhance film criticism both locally and globally by delving into various related concepts. It will gather specialists and enthusiasts interested in film culture, offering a platform for exchanging experiences and boosting engagement in this vital industry sector.
In its second edition, the conference will feature diverse creative discussions. These include sessions on critical issues like sound design's role in cinema and its effect on viewers. Presentations will highlight modern critical perspectives and innovative methods in film criticism. Interactive workshops are also planned to deepen participants' understanding of sound in cinema and improve their analytical skills.

Selected films will be screened with discussions held in the "Critics' Corner." The event will also offer musical evenings, an art exhibition with multimedia works, and a special area for families. This section will provide an educational program aimed at introducing children to film criticism elements and sound in films, promoting film culture through interactive learning.
The Film Commission wrapped up several film criticism forums earlier this year. These were held in Hail on September 27 and Al-Ahsa on October 25 as part of preparations for the international conference in Riyadh. These forums are part of broader efforts to support the cinematic movement within Saudi Arabia and the region, creating platforms for creators, pioneers, amateurs, and enthusiasts to connect while fostering cinematic culture.
The conference will include interactive workshops designed to broaden participants' understanding of sound in cinema. These sessions aim to develop skills in criticism and analysis, providing attendees with practical knowledge they can apply within the industry. Such initiatives are crucial for advancing national, regional, and international engagement in film criticism.
The event is expected to attract a wide range of individuals interested in film criticism and culture. By offering opportunities for experience exchange, it seeks to enrich the field of film criticism significantly. The inclusion of various activities ensures a comprehensive approach to enhancing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills among participants.
This conference is part of ongoing efforts by the Film Commission to advance cinematic culture within Saudi Arabia. By hosting such events, they aim to create platforms that connect different stakeholders within the industry while promoting a deeper understanding of film elements like sound design.
