International Defence Conference 2026 In Abu Dhabi Examines Intelligent Autonomy And Global Security Transformation
The International Defence Conference 2026 will convene defence and security leaders at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi on 19th January 2026. The event runs on the eve of UMEX and SimTEX 2026 and carries the theme "Smart Horizons: Redefining Defence Through Intelligent Autonomy", framing discussions on AI, autonomy and new defence ecosystems.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the conference is organised by ADNEC Group in association with the Tawazun Council of Defence Enablement and the Ministry of Defence. IDC 2026 aims to address current and emerging security challenges through structured dialogue and expert-led sessions.

Across a single day, IDC 2026 will host three main panel discussions that examine command systems, autonomous operations and global standards. Each panel looks at how intelligent autonomous systems influence defence planning, operational practice and cooperation between nations, while also assessing the policy, ethical and security implications of such technologies.
The first panel, titled Command Networks of the Future – The New Nerve System of Defence, studies how AI-enabled capabilities may reshape command, control and communications. Speakers will discuss how human commanders, allied partners and autonomous tools might connect within unified, adaptable structures, and will consider resilience, reliability and trust across digitally linked forces.
The second panel, The Autonomous Force – Integrating AI into Joint and Tactical Operations, focuses on how armed forces integrate unmanned and intelligent systems across land, air, sea and cyber domains. Drawing lessons from recent conflicts, the session considers how organisations adjust their doctrines and how human judgement interacts with autonomous decision-support at the tactical edge.
IDC 2026 closes with Global Autonomy Standards – Building Trust, Safety and Readiness, which examines how governments, industry participants and international bodies can shape validation and security frameworks. The panel will review how moral standards and certification processes could support trust in autonomous military platforms and help prepare global markets while securing collaboration among allied states.
To clarify the core agenda, the International Defence Conference 2026 structures its discussions around three linked themes. These highlight command networks, operational integration and international standards that are central to intelligent autonomy in defence applications.
{TABLE_1}Beyond individual sessions, IDC 2026 positions itself as a global platform for defence and security stakeholders who seek to understand how emerging technologies reshape societies and security environments. The programme looks at how AI, autonomy and digital networks influence defence ecosystems, while also exploring opportunities for international cooperation and more resilient structures.
Participants are expected to explore both advantages and challenges arising from intelligent autonomous systems on modern battlefields. Discussions will assess their potential roles, the complexity they introduce to operations and policy, and how states and organisations can collectively strengthen defence readiness while supporting secure technology development and deployment.
International Defence Conference 2026 leadership, partnerships and UAE context
Dr. Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of Tawazun Council for Defence Enablement, said, "The International Defence Conference 2026 comes at a critical moment, as the global defence sector undergoes rapid transformations driven by artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. This underscores the significance of the conference as a strategic platform for the exchange of insights and the development of high-value partnerships that contribute to strengthening defence readiness and technological self-reliance."
Dr. Nasser Humaid Al Nuaimi added that Tawazun Council aligns the event with national objectives. "We are committed to supporting the defence innovation ecosystem, empowering national industries, and enhancing integration between government entities and the industrial and technology sectors, in line with the UAE’s aspirations to build an advanced, sustainable defence sector, founded on knowledge and cutting-edge technologies," he added.
Commenting on the broader event cluster, Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Group CEO of ADNEC Group, said, "The International Defence Conference, held alongside UMEX and SimTEX 2026, stands as a catalyst for global innovation in unmanned systems, simulation and autonomous systems. This influential gathering brings together defence leaders, industry pioneers, innovators and policymakers to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities shaping the future of defence. As technology continues to redefine the future of defence and security, this conference underscores our commitment to facilitating collaboration and advancing solutions that safeguard our societies and create lasting impact across the world."
IDC 2026 takes place one day before UMEX and SimTEX 2026, linking strategic debate with a wider exhibition platform for unmanned systems, simulation and training. Together, the conference and exhibitions offer manufacturers, technologists and specialists a venue to discuss future security concepts while also supporting development of the global unmanned systems sector.
