Abu Dhabi Marks International Day of Yoga 2025 With A Celebration Of Unity And Wellness

The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi hosted a significant event on June 21, 2025, to celebrate the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY). The theme for this year was "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." Two major Yoga events were held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. These celebrations align with the UAE's Year of the Community.

The morning session at ADNEC was organised by the Embassy in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council on June 21. His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended as Chief Guest. Tennis star Sania Mirza, a former world number 1 in doubles and winner of six Grand Slam titles, was the guest of honour. India Ambassador to the UAE HE Sunjay Sudhir also joined over 1,000 yoga enthusiasts during the day.

The evening session took place at the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum. Participants received Yoga mats, International Day of Yoga T-shirts, water, and healthy refreshments on a first-come-first-served basis. This year's celebration marks more than 10 years since the United Nations adopted India's proposal to observe June 21 as International Day of Yoga.

ADNEC

Since its proclamation by the UN in 2014, the Embassy has consistently celebrated International Day of Yoga. In 2024, Dr. S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, attended the International Day of Yoga event organised by the Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Yoga continues to gain popularity worldwide as a method for achieving holistic health and wellness.

The IDY celebrations aim to strengthen awareness about Yoga's positive impact on global health. The initiative is supported by a record endorsement from 175 member states of the United Nations. Through these events, the message of Yoga is further promoted globally.

As these celebrations coincide with UAE's Year of the Community, they highlight Yoga's role in fostering unity and well-being among diverse communities. The Embassy's efforts underscore its commitment to promoting cultural exchange and enhancing bilateral relations between India and UAE through such initiatives.
