International Day Of Human Fraternity Celebrates Tolerance And Coexistence Among Cultures
The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, has highlighted the International Day of Human Fraternity as a celebration of shared human values. This day reaffirms that everyone belongs to a single global family united by common principles.
On 4th February, the sixth anniversary of the Document on Human Fraternity is commemorated. This significant document was signed in Abu Dhabi by Prof. Dr. Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church. It stands as a landmark agreement in modern history, symbolising one of the most important acts of human solidarity today.

The Council stressed the need for collective efforts to encourage dialogue, tolerance, coexistence, peace, and fraternity among people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. The Document on Human Fraternity has sparked a global movement aimed at spreading love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence since its signing.
Recognising its importance, the United Nations General Assembly declared 4th February as the International Day of Human Fraternity on 22nd December 2020. This decision reflects the profound humanitarian principles enshrined in the document.
Many countries and academic institutions worldwide have integrated the teachings of this document into their educational curricula. Some nations have even adopted it as a national charter, underscoring its significance in promoting peace and understanding.
The Muslim Council of Elders emphasised that all people—regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion—are descendants of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) and share a common destiny. This shared fate calls for collective efforts to foster goodness, compassion, coexistence, and peace.
The Council continues to play a crucial role in promoting these noble humanitarian principles outlined in the Document on Human Fraternity. Through innovative initiatives and programmes, it aims to instill these values in younger generations.
This nurturing process seeks to develop conscientious and responsible youth committed to championing peace, coexistence, and human fraternity. The Council's efforts strive to translate these principles into tangible realities for future generations.
The International Day of Human Fraternity serves as a reminder of our shared values and common destiny. It encourages us all to work together towards fostering compassion and peaceful coexistence across diverse communities worldwide.
