World Agrees With Arab Parliament: Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza Essential

Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Asoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights, highlighted that the call for a ceasefire in Gaza has grown from an Arab appeal to a global demand. He noted that this call now enjoys broad international consensus.

Al-Asoumi stressed that a ceasefire is not only a humanitarian and moral necessity but also a strategic imperative to prevent large-scale conflict in the region. He made these remarks during the second meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Observatory for Human Rights held in Cairo.

Global Call for Gaza Ceasefire

He condemned the occupying power's blatant violations of international law and humanitarian norms. According to Al-Asoumi, these actions harm Palestinians and undermine the global legal system, revealing glaring double standards in human rights principles.

Al-Asoumi expressed support for conclusions reached by the Joint Ministerial Contact Group of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation after their meeting in Madrid. The group reaffirmed commitment to the two-state solution as the only path to lasting peace and security.

He urged the international community to take concrete steps toward implementing this solution. Al-Asoumi called on all parties, including UN member states, to participate in an expanded meeting on "The situation in Gaza and the Implementation of the two-state solution as a path to achieving just and comprehensive peace" at the September 26 UN General Assembly session.

"The ceasefire is a humanitarian and moral necessity," Al-Asoumi said. "It is also a strategic imperative to prevent large-scale conflict."
