International Community Urged To Take Action Against Sudan’s Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis

Ameirah AlHefeiti, the UAE Ambassador to the Netherlands, has urged an immediate halt to the violence in Sudan. After over two years of conflict, she emphasised the need for peace and justice through political consensus. AlHefeiti called for an end to military dominance and exploitation of humanitarian aid, advocating for a civilian-led government.

In a conversation with Emirates News Agency (WAM) in The Hague, AlHefeiti stated that the international community must act swiftly to alleviate Sudan's humanitarian crisis. She stressed the importance of diplomatic solutions and urged global leaders to pressure conflicting parties towards peace. "In light of this catastrophic and bloody humanitarian crisis, it is imperative that the international community takes swift and decisive action to end the suffering and create conditions for a genuine path towards peace," she said.

Call for Action on Sudan's Humanitarian Crisis

AlHefeiti highlighted the UAE's longstanding support for Sudan, rooted in ethical and Arab values. The UAE has been a key partner in Sudan's development across various sectors. Over the past decade, it has provided more than $3.5 billion in aid. Since the conflict began, over $600 million has been allocated for humanitarian assistance.

The ambassador addressed accusations from the Sudanese Armed Forces regarding the UAE's humanitarian role. She dismissed these claims as distractions from their mission to help Sudan. "Their continued denial of responsibility shows blatant disregard for the suffering of the Sudanese people," she noted.

AlHefeiti reiterated that there is no military solution to Sudan's conflict. The UAE has consistently advocated for an immediate ceasefire and sincere negotiations between warring parties. "From the outset, we made it clear—and now, more than two years of killing and destruction have proven it to be an undeniable truth—there is no military solution to this conflict," she affirmed.

The ambassador criticised the Sudanese Armed Forces for evading their responsibilities towards peace. She accused them of using deceptive tactics to shift blame for destruction and displacement onto others. This approach risks turning Sudan into a failed state.

International Responsibility

AlHefeiti urged global powers to take responsibility by pressuring both sides in Sudan's conflict towards diplomatic resolutions. She stressed that ignoring obligations will only escalate suffering further. "The international community must shoulder its responsibilities and pressure both parties to the conflict to accept diplomatic solutions," she insisted.

The UAE remains committed to supporting Sudan until peace is restored. AlHefeiti concluded by affirming that once stability returns, Sudan can regain its position as a sovereign nation contributing positively on regional and international levels.
