UAE To Host The 57th International Chemistry Olympiad In July 2025

The UAE is set to host the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in Dubai from 6 to 14 July 2025. This event will gather over 360 students from more than 90 countries, marking the largest participation since the Olympiad began in 1968. This underscores the UAE's growing influence in global science education.

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, highlighted that hosting this event aligns with the UAE's vision of becoming a hub for education, science, and innovation. She stated, "This milestone will inspire Emirati students and help shape a new generation of scientists capable of innovation and global competitiveness. It also represents a national opportunity to enhance the quality of education and develop a learning environment that keeps pace with the world’s best models."

International Chemistry Olympiad Comes to UAE

Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to the UAE President and Chancellor of UAE University (UAEU), remarked on the significance of IChO 2025. He said, "The International Chemistry Olympiad 2025 serves as a prestigious global platform that celebrates academic excellence and fosters a spirit of scientific innovation among youth. It also underscores the prominent role of UAEU in advancing scientific research and learning."

He further added, "Through our engagement in this initiative, we reaffirm our mission to address global challenges and to contribute to shaping a future built on the foundations of knowledge, discovery, and innovation. At UAEU, we firmly believe that empowering youth and supporting global scientific collaboration are essential pillars for building a more prosperous and sustainable world."

The Ministry of Education (MoE) is organising IChO 2025 with an agenda that includes advanced theoretical and practical exams. Participants will also engage in cultural tours and social events aimed at fostering cultural exchange among international youth. This edition introduces technological innovations like digital tools for monitoring exam progress.

Four students will represent the UAE at IChO 2025 after being selected through a rigorous national process. Their preparation included intensive training programmes with workshops at UAEU and a science camp at Sirius Education Centre in Russia. This reflects MoE’s commitment to empowering national talent to meet international standards.

Encouraging Scientific Pursuits Among Youth

IChO 2025 aims to inspire Emirati youth to pursue chemistry and related sciences while encouraging educational institutions to update curricula according to global standards. The event highlights the UAE's dedication to nurturing young scientific talent for future innovation.

This significant gathering not only celebrates academic excellence but also promotes scientific collaboration on an international scale. The UAE's hosting of such an event reinforces its position as a leader in science education globally.
