Global Talents Shine At The 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad In Riyadh
The 56th International Chemistry Olympiad concluded at King Saud University in Riyadh. Sponsored by Minister of Education Yousef Al-Benyan, the event saw 333 participants from 90 countries. Supervised by 260 international chemistry specialists, it was a significant gathering of talent.
Prominent attendees included Mawhiba chairman Suleiman Al-Zaben, Mawhiba secretary-general Dr. Amal Al-Hazzaa, King Saud University president Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman, and SABIC CEO Abdulrahman Al-Faqih. The prize distribution featured 36 gold medals, 67 silver medals, 99 bronze medals, and 30 certificates of appreciation.

China's Zhong Cheng, Bulgaria's Victor Lilov, and the United States' Yufei Chen secured the top three positions respectively. Forty-seven countries received four awards each, five countries won three awards each, six received two awards each, and ten countries received one award each.
Al-Benyan highlighted that hosting the Olympiad aligns with HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz's vision to gather creative talents globally. J.L. Kiappez, chairman of the international steering committee for the Olympiad, praised participants and organizers for their efforts.
"The Olympiad provided an excellent opportunity to build ties between participants from different countries," said Kiappez. Following the ceremony, Saudi Arabia handed over the flag to the United Arab Emirates for next year's International Chemistry Olympiad.
The event underscored Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering global scientific collaboration and nurturing young talent in chemistry.
