Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Launches International Alliance For Two-State Solution At UN Meeting
On September 26th, 2024, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in a ministerial meeting focused on the Palestinian issue and peace efforts. This meeting occurred during the high-level week of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. During his address, Prince Faisal announced the creation of the "International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution" on behalf of Arab and Islamic countries and European partners.
Prince Faisal highlighted that the conflict in Gaza has led to a humanitarian crisis. He condemned the severe violations by Israeli forces in the West Bank and threats to Al-Aqsa Mosque. These actions, he noted, are part of a broader policy of occupation and violent extremism. He stated: "Self-defense cannot justify the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, the practice of systematic destruction, forced displacement, the use of starvation as a tool of war, incitement, and dehumanization, and systematic torture in its most heinous forms, including sexual violence and other crimes documented according to United Nations reports."

The Foreign Minister expressed concern over escalating tensions in the region. He warned that these developments could lead to a regional war affecting Lebanon and beyond. He urged for an immediate cessation of hostilities: "We demand an immediate end to the ongoing war and all violations that violate international law, and holding accountable all those obstructing the peace process and preventing them from threatening the security of the region and the entire world."
Prince Faisal questioned global governance's credibility due to its failure to halt ongoing conflicts. He criticised selective enforcement of international laws that undermine equality and human rights. He added: "We wonder what remains of the credibility and legitimacy of the global system in the face of our inability to stop the war machine and the insistence of some on the selective application of international law in clear violation of the most basic standards of equality, freedom, and human rights."
The establishment of an independent Palestinian state is essential for peace, according to Prince Faisal. He emphasised this right should not be subject to lengthy negotiations. He stated: "We affirm our appreciation for the countries that have recently recognized Palestine, and we call on all countries to be courageous and take the same decision and join the international consensus represented by (149) countries that recognize Palestine." The two-state solution is seen as crucial for ending conflict and ensuring regional security.
Prince Faisal concluded by officially launching an initiative aimed at achieving lasting peace through a two-state solution. He invited global participation: "Today, in the name of Arab and Islamic countries and our European partners, we announce the launch of the 'International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution,' and we invite you to join this initiative, stressing that we will do our utmost to achieve a reliable and irreversible path to a just and comprehensive peace." The meeting was attended by key Saudi officials including Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil.
