Intermix Residency Second Cycle Open Call Announced By Visual Arts Commission

The Visual Arts Commission opens applications for the second cycle of the third edition of the Intermix Residency, based at JAX District in Diriyah. The cycle lasts three months and hosts 15 visual artists and curators from Saudi Arabia and other countries, with full financial and logistical support.

Across the full edition, Intermix Residency is structured into three consecutive cycles, each running for three months. Every group gains access to dedicated studio spaces at JAX District, as well as mentorship, professional development programmes, workshops, lectures, and organised field visits that connect residents with local cultural scenes and institutions.

The Intermix Residency operates on three guiding pillars: innovation, transformation, and sustainability. These principles shape the curatorial direction, daily programme design, and long-term developmental goals. The residency encourages experimentation, supports new artistic approaches, and links contemporary practice with broader cultural and environmental discussions in Saudi Arabia and internationally.

Since launching, earlier editions of the Intermix Residency have hosted more than 70 participants from different regions worldwide. Residents benefit from fully funded accommodation and production support, while working in a collaborative setting that brings together artists, cultural experts, and community members. Each three-month cycle ends with an Open Studio event, where participants present their projects to the public, partner organisations, and cultural bodies.

Through the Intermix Residency, the Visual Arts Commission seeks to strengthen the artist residency ecosystem, promote creative exchange, and help advance the contemporary visual arts landscape. Applications are currently open, and candidates must be at least 21 years old and able to attend for the full three-month period, submitting their applications through the commission’s digital platform.
