Indra Group And EDGE Collaborate On Advanced Defence Systems For European Markets
Indra Group and EDGE have taken a significant step by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a joint venture in Spain. This venture aims to develop, produce, and maintain loitering munitions and smart weapons for Spanish, European, and selected international markets. The collaboration could extend to various defence programmes across Europe.
The joint venture would leverage Indra's expanding industrial presence in Spain, alongside EDGE's expertise in loitering munitions. Ángel Escribano, Executive President of Indra Group, highlighted the complementary strengths of both companies. He stated, "This partnership would bring together complementary capabilities, experience, and commercial reach in the loitering munition and smart weapons segments to deliver world-class solutions to our clients."

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director & CEO of EDGE Group, emphasised the strategic nature of this collaboration. He remarked that EDGE has developed an agile industrial ecosystem capable of quickly responding to new opportunities. "Our collaboration with Indra reflects not only a long-standing relationship built on trust and shared ambition but also a strategic pathway for expanding our presence across European markets through joint innovation and advanced manufacturing," he said.
The envisioned partnership aims to enhance the industrial and technological ties between the UAE and Spain. By combining Indra's expertise in defence systems with EDGE's rapid development model, they plan to deliver high-performance solutions for global customers. This initiative is expected to strengthen their position in European and NATO markets.
José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group, pointed out the benefits of establishing engineering and production capabilities within Europe. "By establishing both engineering and production capabilities in Europe, we would ensure sovereignty and boost commercial opportunities on the continent," he stated.
The development of smart weapons offers modern battlefield forces unmatched flexibility. These weapons can target hidden threats that appear briefly without risking valuable platforms near danger zones. This capability is crucial for maintaining operational effectiveness while minimising risks.
Building on Previous Collaborations
This potential new collaboration builds on the existing relationship between Indra and EDGE. In 2024, they launched PULSE NOVA, a joint venture focused on radar systems' engineering, development, manufacturing, integration, maintenance, and marketing in promising markets. This new endeavour aims to continue opening international business opportunities.
The proposed partnership seeks to inject fresh momentum into their strategic alliance by combining their respective strengths. It represents an opportunity for both companies to expand their influence in key markets through innovative solutions tailored for export readiness.
