T20 World Cup 2024: Namibia Unveils Squad, Nicol Loftie-Eaton Excluded
Namibia has officially announced their 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the United States and West Indies. This revelation comes with a notable absence - all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who made headlines with his record-breaking T20I century against Nepal. Despite his achievements, Loftie-Eaton will miss out on the tournament, reportedly due to disciplinary issues.
Under the leadership of seasoned all-rounder Gerhard Erasmus, with JJ Smit as his deputy, Namibia aims to build on their successful qualifying campaign. The team secured their spot in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup after an unbeaten run at last year's Africa Qualifier on home soil.

The squad sees the exclusion of veteran Pikky Ya France and young batter Shawn Fouche, alongside Loftie-Eaton. However, it includes twelve players who were part of the team's qualifying journey. New additions include inexperienced seamer Dylan Leicher, left-arm quick Ruben Trumpelmann, and teenage pacer Jack Brassell.
Namibia has until May 25 to make any changes to their squad. After this date, any alterations require approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC). Here is a detailed look at the players representing Namibia in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024:
Gerhard Erasmus (captain), Zane Green, Michael Van Lingen, Dylan Leicher, Ruben Trumpelmann, Jack Brassell, Ben Shikongo, Tangeni Lungameni, Niko Davin, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, JP Kotze, David Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, Malan Kruger, PD Blignaut.
Marking their third consecutive appearance at the T20 World Cup, Namibia finds itself in Group B. The team is scheduled to face Oman in their opening match in Barbados on June 2. Subsequent matches include a clash with Scotland at the same venue on June 7 and encounters with top teams in the group - Australia and England on June 12 and 15 respectively at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua & Barbuda.
This selection reflects Namibia's strategic approach to leveraging experienced players while integrating new talent into their squad. As they prepare for their tournament opener against Oman, the team looks forward to showcasing their skills on an international stage and striving for success in the T20 World Cup 2024.
